1_The top ten commandments

You will find the Ten Commandments, or the Dialogue, or the Ten Words in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5.
Remember back in the day when you could have an incinerator in the back yard? Besser bricks… Burn stuff… aerosol cans…
How about when you could go for ride on your bike without wearing helmet?
Remember when you could get your licence by going to police station and taking your local police officer for a drive around the block?Legislation – nanny state… Israel had been captives in Egypt for 400 years. Influenced in their ways, values, morals, worship, relationships by the Egyptians. Now God brings them together with Him at Mt Sinai, post their redemptive Exodus from Egypt, and He instructs them in their relationship with Him and in their relationships with each other.
vv 1-2 1 And God spoke all these words, saying, 2 “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
This is how you will live, do relationships, live in community, worship, be my people, be a witness to the nations…
Exodus – the commands are not without context: first half (chaps. 1–19) tells the narrative of Israel’s miraculous rescue from slavery in Egypt and successful exodus to Mount Sinai, all in fulfilment of God’s promise.
The second half introduces the Sinai/Mosaic Covenant (in 20:1–31:18), “a formal, solemn expression of God’s relationship to his people and theirs to him” (cf Abrahamic Covenant Gen 12,15).
When was the last time you tried to put something together without looking at the directions/manual? What happened?
