Over the month of January we’ve been pulling together some reflections coming out of 2020 together using the narrative of the Gospel of John under the theme of Going deeper. John’s Gospel is ideal for this – it has been described as being shallow enough for a child to play around the edges, or deep enough that the seasoned theologian cannot fathom the depths.
Followers of Jesus are constantly on a journey of becoming more like Jesus in every way possible. “Deeper” is a word that defines our desire for each person, going a little deeper, pushing out into deeper waters, moving beyond the status quo.
I believe that God is calling us go deeper. May our hearts desire be that of the Psalmist: Psalm 63:1 (NLT) 1 O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.
