Following Jesus, fulfilling His mission, in community together.

Luke 21 We’re on the eve of destruction

As we worship and welcome King Jesus into our lives, He calls us to stand and live righteous lives because His kingdom is coming.

Reading Phillip Adams – Tick, tock – referencing the doomsday Clock (a cold war icon – Founded in 1945 by Albert Einstein and University of Chicago scientists who helped develop the first atomic weapons in the Manhattan Project – At doom’s doorstep: It is 100 seconds to midnight.

“and we’re seconds from the midnight of our own mortality.”

Mentioned global warming; threat of nuclear Armageddon during the Cold War; HIV-AIDS, ebola, COVID; UFO’s are making a comeback along with the X-Files; then there are the political apocalypses with dictators, demagogues and tyrants aplenty.

Remember Y2K? Ok how many of you stockpiled not just toilet paper?

“On the eve of destruction” 1965 – Barry McGuire

“Don’t you understand, what I’m trying to say?

And can’t you feel the fears I’m feeling today?

If the button is pushed, there’s no running away,
There’ll be no one to save with the world in a grave”

Every time there’s a world event like the invasion of Iraq, or global fuel embargo of the 70’s or COVID or earthquakes or Russia invading Ukraine and some people begin talking prophecy and end of the world and mark of the beast and we’re living in the end times.

… and it’s like here we go again.

In Luke 21:5–9 (NLT) 5 Some of his disciples began talking about the majestic stonework of the Temple and the memorial decorations on the walls. But Jesus said, 6 “The time is coming when all these things will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!” 7 “Teacher,” they asked, “when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to take place?”
