Refugee Week is Australia’s peak annual activity to raise awareness about the issues affecting refugees and celebrate the positive contributions made by refugees to Australian society. Celebrated since 1986, Refugee Week coincides with World Refugee Day.

I’ll give you the heads up on my journey with the refugee story… in one of my post-grad studies I completed a paper on the Old Testament theology of the stranger/alien. From it I gained much understanding of the heart of God toward the downtrodden – the afflicted – the alien.

This aligned with some involvement with rural Australians for refugees and listening to lawyer Julian Burnside. It wasn’t an easy journey living in rural Victoria where you were considered left if you were seen buying the AGE newspaper on a Saturday morning….
