Following Jesus, fulfilling His mission, in community together.

Refugee Sunday – how to change the world

Scott Higgins (Baptist minister and Director of Community Engagement for Baptist World Aid Australia) writes (How do the parties compare: asylum seeker and refugee policy) “The world faces a refugee crisis. 20 million people are refugees and another 2 million are seeking asylum.
There are three possible solutions for those who are refugees: that they be returned home when it becomes safe to do so; that they settle down and build a new life in the country to which they first fled; that they resettle in a third country such as Australia.
At present less than 2% are able to return home each year, less than 2% are able to settle down in the country to which they have fled, and less than 1% are accepted for resettlement in third countries such as Australia. This leaves 95% of the world refugees living without any certainty about their future and usually in extremely difficult second circumstances”
Our vision statement – follow Jesus, fulfil His mission.
There is no politics in that statement. There is no spin. There is an agenda, but it’s not hidden. It’s not your agenda, or mine; it’s a Kingdom agenda.
What does this look like? It’s uncomplicated – we love God, and love our neighbor as ourselves…
We’ve been studying the Ten Commandments. These were part of God’s play book for team Israel to know what it was to be in relationship with God and to live community together…
