You Shall Not Steal

“You shall not steal” Exodus 20:15 – the eight commandment in God’s top ten that he gave to his people after bringing them up out of slavery in Egypt. At the giving of the law, Yahweh was forming for himself a people through whom all nations would be blessed & come to know the one true God. In Christ, God is forming a new people, grafting into the people of God those who would believe in him. For this reason, the 10 commandments are still relevant to those who would follow after Jesus.

The application for this commandment seems simple – don’t take what isn’t yours. This is true on an individual level and reveals the character of honesty & integrity that should mark out those who would be a part of the people of God. But what if there was more to what it means to follow this commandment other than simply “not taking what isn’t yours”.

In this weeks sermon, Chris invites us to look beyond the simple & individual application for what it is not to steal, by taking a look at our history as a nation and how we as a “white Australia” are were founded by stealing what was not ours. Chris highlights this deep & complex issue within our society & offers some ways forward for us a country and as the people of God to play our part in restoration.

Join us this week as we’re challenged & encouraged by the word of God in Scripture.
