Top Ten Commandments – You Shall not covet

Exodus 20:17 (ESV) “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

In this message Pastor Riley Smith considers the final of the Ten Commandments, ‘you shall not covet’. This message on coveting was fittingly within the context of Baptist World Aid’s ‘Be Love Sunday’. To covet is to desire obsessively, to wish to acquire something or someone for yourself. John Dickson in his book “a doubters guide to the Ten Commandments” suggests three dimensions of coveting:
A Social or a relational dimension
A Spiritual dimension – asking the question ‘where does my satisfaction come from? Where does my fulfillment come from?
An Internal dimension – what is my heart really set on?
